News (September 15, 2009)

A whole bunch of updates, since this page surely needs some.

First and foremost, if you're looking for my promised feature on a brave adolescent hero who only wears his costume when he's asleep, you may find it in my new blog(see the navigation bar on the left).  I'll probably be posting all future site updates in the blog rather than here.

Second, I've added a section specially devoted to The Termite.  Right now it's just a basic intro, but there's more to come.  Let me know if there's something you'd like to see added there.

Finally, I've tidied up the "Published Works" page a bit and added in some helpful links that were missing.  That page is now pretty complete as it stands, though hopefully I'll soon have more publications to fit in there!

That's all for now.  Drop me a line and let me know how I'm doing!  (Sorry, I haven't yet figured out how to create a guestbook.)

Welcome to Obscure Gems!

I am your host, Robert Orme.  This site is basically a venue for promoting my work as a writer of fiction.  But since my devotion to business is equaled by my devotion to pleasure, I'll be regularly posting little features on some of my favorite artists, characters, serials, etc. from the realm of the creative arts... in other words, obscure gems!

You see, I have a lifelong fascination with the obscure and under-appreciated.  I love finding some wonderful musical group, comic book series, novel, or whatever that seemingly no one else has heard of.  And I love sharing that joy with others.  Hence, the little features that I'll be posting on a monthly basis.  If more than one out of ten thousand people have heard of whatever I'm featuring on any given month, then I have failed in my job.

In fact, I'm thinking of having a little guarantee along those lines... more about that in my next update.

So, what shall I discuss first?  How about superheroes?  After all, I've recently had the debut of my own superhero published by Cyberwizard Productions.  Yep, my novelette "More Than One Way to Protect" appears in the Lords of Justice anthology, released under Cyberwizard's Altered Dimensions imprint.  I couldn't be prouder.  You can buy the anthology at www.cyberwizardproductions.com/  That's my self-promotion for the day.

So yes, I think I'll have the next few features devoted to the most heroic, compelling, and obscure superheroes I know.  Be here on the 15th as we discuss a brave adolescent superhero... one who only wears his costume when he's asleep!

Do you know who I'm talking about?  Please e-mail if you do!

Now, I am new to this whole "running a website" thing, so while I'll no doubt be sponging help off of my tech-saavy brother now and then, I do need your input!  If I ever figure out how to put up a guestbook or some such thing on here, that'll be the place for said input, but for now, go ahead and contact me at Flarefan@hotmail.com.  Comments, criticisms, and random thoughts are all appreciated.
